I am a senior investigative journalist at a Polokwane community newspaper (not the one Nico just left).
Six years ago I had never set foot in an editorial office. All that changed for me when Nico decided to take a chance on me. Thanks to his guidance and management, I have won a few awards and am earning roughly 3 times more than I was 5 years ago.
I can without hesitation say Nico is the best "boss" I have ever had, in all aspects. Karen Venter
He is my role Model
ODD though it may sound, I met Nico as a young boy from a matric class. I was young and clueless about media but had an interest in the industry.
Nico Prinsloo is one editor, father and a friend that I will always appreciate in, the one who ever made a lasting impression in me and I will forever admire the likes of him. He believes in young people and teaching them. He dreams big and strives to put actions into what he believes in.
It is him, Mr. Prinsloo. He is one editor that has unique and admirable skills.
A deadline-driven, communicative, dedicated, and enthusiastic man.
He showed his strong sense of news; he taught me how to generate story ideas out of nothing and give it newsworthiness. He made me and other young journalists ethical journalists and showed us how to abide by the journalistic principles, values and laws governing the media / journalists. Accuracy, balance, public interest and truth are the hallmarks of my stories. All because of him. He understood the meaning of the freedom of the press, and puts it in parallel with the right of individuals to privacy in a balanced fashion. Nico told me to always apply confidence in every reporting I am engaged in with pressure tolerance, my stories always hit front pages and regularly lead most pages in our papers, that was because of the kind of leadership that lives in him.
Without a doubt he deserve the title of an Ace reporter. I also want to state that it was through his leadership that I became the youngest editor in the province leading a team of Capricorn Voice journalists across the province of Limpopo. I recommend him for any senior job anywhere

I am the newseditor of the Northern Review newspaper. I started working at NMG as a sales representative in the advertising department. I always had a passion for writing but never thought I would get a chance to pursue my passion. Nico Prinsloo was the one person who believed in giving people chances. Five years ago I moved from the advertising department to the editorial department as the promotions journalist. With his guidance and support I am now the newseditor of the Northern Review newspaper. People always say you meet one person that influences your life in such a way that they leave a lasting impression. Nico had such an influence on my life, he led by example and I was proud to follow. And if our work paths should ever cross again,I would count myself lucky to work with him again. What I learned from him can never be taken away. I will always look up to him, he is my editor. “Don't be afraid to leave you comfort zone.” Thank you for the part you have played in my life.
I am a former journalist who was trained and supervised by Nico Prinsloo from 2005 – 2007. I joined his team with no previous experience about four years ago and I remember and respect Nico as a good leader who taught me to take responsibility. He consciously created a ‘journalist’ out of me. With resources and actions, Nico invested a lot in me.
He made me believe that true journalism is not only just a field, but a life; this man knows almost all the branches of journalism and their stem.
This space is not enough to express realities about Nico. But in short, He is a dynamic, innovative, responsive, versatile, progress-oriented, strategic and a no-excuses editorial manager and great thinker. Let me echo Stephen’s sentiments when he says Nico dreams big. Indeed he is optimistic, intelligent, and wise with excellent editorial skills expedition. He is full of creative initiatives that aim at capacitating his subordinates. He is a good planner. He believes in professional growth, team work and helping people to achieve goals. I recommend him for any editorial management task and I know he can perform beyond the mark of excellence.
With reference to editorial correctness or not, I openly declare and bear testimony that, all the NMG papers will never be the same again without Nico! His absence will be hectically felt! Limpopo, South Africa, Africa and the globe still need Nico’s brains to keep up to the highest standards of journalism.
I will never do anything that could have a negative reference on him. I am proud to be a product of such a good editor.
Today I can write better, because of him.
Today I can initiate thoughts, because of him.
Today I can mentor and teach, because of him.
Today I can advise potential journos, because of him.
Today I am the spokesperson (media liaison officer) for a local municipality because of him.
On behalf of myself, if ever there’s any other word than ‘best’, give it to Nico!

Journalism is not necessarily my forte; but I have been involved in
electronic news & entertainment media, over the years. Enough to appreciate a "gift" for communication when I stumble upon it. Having gotten acquainted with
Nico, across the waters {from St Petersburg, FL.USA}, recently; when he posted a comment of encouragement on my humble blog, I immediately realized I was meeting a fellow communicator. Obviously the testimonial/comments that have preceeded my own speak for themselves; as to first hand exposure and influence from this talented journalist and raconteur.
I wish him the best.

I am the editor of Your Lifestyle -a lifestyle supplement in the Northern Review and have been working with Nico since the end of 2003 (when I started as the social journalist).Boss, thanks for your wisdom, your perspective, your guidance, your humour, your quotes and all the good advice. It’s wonderful to work with someone with mentor status.
You legend
People of the world, sit down and listen, because what you will read in the following few lines, will change your life and the way you think. Have you ever met someone that you can sit down with, talk to them about anything that bothers you, share your sadness and they aren’t even great friend or relative? I’m not talking about a 250 bucks an hour psychologist, I’m talking about a man that will change your life no matter if you know him for 20 years, or 20 seconds. Well, I know one, and if your life needs colour, meet him. Nico Prinsloo, you legend ! With guts and intelligence you came into my life through newspapers. You gave me a job as a sport journalist and today I’m a editor and a manager of a paper. Without your constant boost of energy with ideas, nothing of this would have been possible. I salute you and will always admire your way of thinking. You listened to every problem, personal or work, and even tried to solve them no matter how deep you had to stick your own head in. Thank you for always standing behind your team no matter how wrong or right we were. Pierre
I also used to work with Nico Prinsloo at Northern Media Group. I work in the Admin Department. Although I did not work under Nico we all miss him terribly. He has a great sense of humour and it's true what Pierre said: you can talk to Nico about anything. He always listens. I believe that we lost a great leader and that Northern Media Group will never be the same without Nico.
I wish you all the best in the future Nico. I hope that our paths will again cross someday.

I learnt more from Nico in 6 weeks than I did in 5 years at university. He taught me, while I was an intern under his tutelage, that journalists are observers of life, if you do not pay attention to what is going on around you, you cannot write as you will have no material. Observing is not always easy though, standing with your toes touching the sidelines can be gut wrenching at times but in dealing with this, Nico taught me about the absolute and complete power of the press.
It is because of this type of outlook and an ability to philosophize on the media industry that Nico is the kind of person that the press in this country needs more of!
As an editor his ability to motivate and inform his team is unsurpassed in my experience.Mark my words: Nico Prinsloo will go down in history alongside the likes of Max du Preez and Jacques Pauw.
Unlike other people in his age group, Nico stays abreast of trends in both the media and technological industries. It is because him that his previous place of employment now has a page on Facebook and is electronically linked to major publications across the globe! He is a truly remarkable person and any organisation would be lucky to have him!
